The National Research Programme (NRP) 2021-2027 includes among its objectives the creation of a fair, healthy and environmentally friendly food system. It points towards innovative technologies that improve food quality, preservation and environmental sustainability. It calls for packaging systems to be redesigned according to the life cycle of products and, given the limited availability of bioactive substances, for the use of health-promoting active ingredients developed in the pharmaceutical sector to be considered. In this context, the conscious use of the legal instruments of Intellectual Property allows companies to protect their innovation and creativity in production processes, raw materials, products and packaging.
